Instant Sweet Vanilla Chai

Matt and I are huge chai fans! We made our own here and I drink a lot of spiced teas throughout the fall and winter. Republic of Tea has an excellent line of holiday teas! This year for my co-workers I wanted to give them a little something DIYed and this is what popped up on one of the blogs I follow a few days later! It is a nice sweet beverage with a pretty pronounced vanilla flavor, but not as much of the spiced flavor. I think this makes a nice base recipe that will be fun to play around with and adapt later!

Recipe (From Foodie with Family)

I got about 13 4oz jars to use as gifts

  • 1 1/2 cups instant unsweetened tea powder (like Nestea)
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 1 cup non-fat instant dry milk powder
  • 1 cup plain non-dairy creamer powder
  • 1 cup vanilla non-dairy creamer powder
  • 1 Tbsp ground ginger
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp grated nutmeg
  • 1/8 tsp ground cloves

Start by mixing all the powders and spices together in a bowl. Then process the mix 1-2 cups at a time in a food processor until it's a fine powder. I put all of the processed powder into a large ziplock bag and cut off the corner to funnel the powder into the jars. The original recipe suggests starting with 1 Tbsp of mix per 1/3 cup hot water and adjust the beverage to suit your taste.
