Happy Valentine’s Day! I made these rice krispie treat cookies for the kids I teach Sunday school to. Since it was almost valentine’s day, I wanted to surprise them with something sweet. Since I had already exhausted the number of cut out cookies I’ll make each year with the soft sugar cookies, I thought it would be cute to make valentines rice krispie treats like they have on the Kellogg’s website. Unfortunately, even though I made the rice crispy treats thinner than usual, I missed the suggestion to cut out the shapes while they are still warm. I also had thought it would be easier to frost them first. Both were big mistakes. By the second heart I tried to cut out, I was done. But with the pink frosting and cute sprinkles I think the bars were still pretty festive for my kiddos.
Rice Krispie Treat Cookies (From Kellogg’s)
- 3 Tbsp butter
- 4 cups mini marshmallows (or 1 package 10 oz regular marshmallow, about 40)
- 6 cups rice krispies
- frosting of your choice
- sprinkles if desired
Line a 10x15 pan with plastic wrap. Melt the butter in a large saucepan (I used 4.5 quart). Once melted add the marshmallows and continue to heat until melted. Then add the rice krispies and stir to combined. Press the mixture into the lined pan.
If you to try to cut out shapes, you should try while they are unfrosted and still warm. If you want bars, you can wait until they have completely cooled, then frost, sprinkle, cut, and enjoy!
