Candy Corn Cookies

Happy Halloween!

These are little almond flavored slice and bake cookies. I thought they would be a super cute Halloween treat. One layer is died with orange food coloring and the other colored layer is made by dipping the end of the cookies into yellow colored candy melts.

They are a little putsy to cut and then dip, but they turned out so cute. I made little Halloween gift bags with these cookies and mellowcreme pumpkins and I was really happy with the end result.

The original recipe called for 2 teaspoons of orange juice, which I don’t normally keep on hand. With the small amount of liquid in the recipe I just used 2 teaspoons of milk instead so it didn’t change the flavor profile.

Recipe (From Sugarbelle )

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) of butter, room temperature
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 2 tsp almond extract
  • 2 tsp milk
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 3 cups flour
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • yellow colored candy melts

Cream butter and sugar then add the egg, vanilla, almond extract, and milk and mix well. Then slowly add salt, baking soda, and flour and mix until combined. I weighed the dough and divided it into thirds and tinted one third with orange food gel dye. Line a loaf pan with plastic wrap and press one of the uncolored thirds of the dough into the pan, then press the orange third of the dough, then top with the remaining cookie dough.

I chilled the dough overnight. When you are ready to finish the cookies preheat the oven to 375F. slice the cookie dough loaf into slices and cut those up into small triangle cookies. Bake for 7-10 minutes. Once cooled, dip the large end of the cookie into melted candy melts and allow to dry before serving or packing up.
